Widely recognized as the finest insect storage drawers made commercially in the U.S., BioQuip’s Cornell drawers feature one-piece construction. This unique production method employs tolerances measured in thousandths of an inch. The unique design assures exact fit of the glass top to the drawer frame, and discourages escape of fumigants and infestation by damaging pests. Our drawers are used in North American compactor systems that do not have sealed storage. The hardboard drawer bottom is glued into a recessed groove on the inside of the frame 1/8" from the bottom of the drawer. This superior technique provides a tight seal and further reduces the possibility of external pest infestation. Polyethylene foam has been a standard pinning bottom in BioQuip insect drawers since 1958. Drawers with plastazote foam (identified by its fine grained cell structure and smoother appearance) are also featured. See 1028N and 1028P for descriptions of these materials. Pine is no longer an economical alternative to hardwoods. Poplar hardwood has proved to be a good alternative and costs less than pine. Customer response to poplar drawers has been positive, and many collections have changed their call-out for drawers from pine to poplar. 1012 Pine Cornell Drawers Introduced by BioQuip in 1956. These insect storage drawers have been successful because of their consistently uniform construction and tight fit. They have a combination cardholder/drawer-pull, and are sold with or without foam pinning bottoms. 1012 Poplar Cornell Drawers Introduced by BioQuip in 1997. These hardwood insect drawers are replacing 1012 pine drawers in some existing collections because they offer a viable economic alternative. They have a combination cardholder/drawer-pull, and are sold with or without foam pinning bottoms. 1013 Basswood Cornell Drawers Outstanding storage units known for lasting durability and appearance. Options include white interior drawer side lining, full Cornell hardware (knob, two cardholders, and four hooks) or knob and cardholders only. They are available with choice of foam pinning surface laminated to hardboard drawer bottom or with hardboard bottom only. Cornell drawers are manufactured from pine, poplar hardwood, or fine grain basswood at our facility in California to the following specifications: Materials: Construction: Dimensions & Weights: Seven sizes of unit pinning trays are available to accommodate virtually any size or combination of specimens: 1025AA, 1025A1/2, 1025A, 1025B, 1025C, 1025D and 1025E.
