Aquatic barrier screen, or ‘kick’ net, is useful for collecting hellgrammites, stonefly nymphs, crane fly larvae, and other insects which cling to stones in swiftly running water. When stones are kicked or disturbed, dislodged insects are trapped downstream in the screen. The net consists of two 48" hardwood maple dowels, spiked at the bottom, and a 20 x 20 mesh amber Lumite screen, 36" (91cm) square. Mesh openings are approximately 1 mm. Screen is reinforced by a banding of Dacron sail tape, with sides forming a tube which slides over the dowels.
