The California Academy insect pinning system employs 5 rows of unit trays per drawer. Constructed of chipboard covered with white paper, trays feature white 1028N polyethylene foam or 1028P plastazote foam pinning bottoms press fitted with hot melt adhesive. A size 00 insect pin may be inserted easily without forceps and without bending the pin. The foam does not fracture, remains permanently pliable, is unaffected by moisture, and does not rust pins. An additional unit tray size, 1025M or 1025MP, has been added recently. Its size is one-half of an 'L' size tray, ideal for holding a single specimen. Because polyethylene foam and adhesives are affected by paradichlorobenzene, BioQuip recommends using 1196 DDVP fumigants. Trays are 1-3/8" high (35mm). Unit trays without pinning material, 1025JMT - 1025MMT are now available. Pinning bottoms may be cut to size from 1028N polyethylene foam sheets or 1028P plastazote foam sheets.
