The 2809B InsectaVac Aspirator offers a high-powered, lightweight alternative for collecting insects and other small arthropods. The design concept was provided by Ken Harmon a.k.a. “Ken the Bug Man” from St. Cloud, FL. The aspirator uses the same collection and pickup tube system as BioQuip’s other 2809 series aspirators with an improved ergonomic powerbase. The 2809B drive unit has a permanent on-board lithium ion battery and is charged with a Micro USB cable which is supplied with the unit. It can be plugged into a computer, phone charging block, or any other USB charging device. (A USB charging block is not included.) The motor takes a few seconds to get up to full speed after being turned on. Three collection vials, two pickup tubes, one angled and one straight, are also included. Additional collection vials, 2809V, are available separately.
The InsectaVac is also available without the onboard lithium ion battery in a corded model 2809BC which has a 64” (163 cm) USB power cord.
The pistol grip aspirator base unit is also compatible with the now discontinued 2809A, 2809C and 2809D model aspirators, and can be purchased separately as a replacement for use with the collecting vials and pickup tubes that you already have for those models. They are available in two different models, the InsectaVac Aspirator Drive Unit Only, USB w/onboard lithium ion battery 2809BD, or the InsectaVac Aspirator Drive Unit Only, USB, corded 2809BCD which has a 64” (163 cm) USB cord.
When tested at one-minute intervals, the fully charged battery was able to power the 2809B InsectaVac for 72 minutes. (Individual results may vary.) The InsectaVac has enough suction to capture full size crickets.
When you are out in the field, the new 2809BB Back-up Battery provides that extra charge you need. It has a 20,000 milliamp hour capacity and can be charged using the convenient USB cord (included), or an auto phone charger adapter (not included), standard phone wall charging plug, or it can be recharged with the built-in solar panel. The two USB output ports each provide 10,000 mAh of power.
