Sturdy, low-cost cages are suitable both for classroom rearing and observation and for many field and lab applications by entomology professionals. Suggested uses include rearing and viewing butterflies and moths, preying mantids, spiders, mosquitoes, agricultural pests, and small vertebrates such as lizards or snakes. Cages are completely collapsible for convenient storage or cleaning. It takes only a few minutes to assemble or dismantle them and no tools are required. Three BugDorm models are available.

BugDorm 1 - The cage is a cube 11-3/4" (299 cm) made of plastic-injected white polypropylene, nearly transparent with good visibility on all sides, top and bottom are solid. Three side panels are 24 x 24 mesh plastic screen, with openings of 1.1 mm x .7 mm. The fourth side panel provides easy access from an opening 6-1/8" (16cm) diameter with nylon sleeve. It weighs only 2 lbs.

Two or three cages can be stacked together creating a taller unit to accommodate a potted plant or other uses where a cage height of two or three feet is desirable. BugDorm 1 can be used in a temperature range of -15 to 85 C.

A replacement nylon mesh sleeve is available.

BugDorm 2 - This cage's tent-like design facilitates easy assembly, transport, and storage. The 24 x 24 x 24" (61 cm) cage is self-supported by solid fiberglass poles, 3-21.5" (54.6cm) per arch, 2 arches. Front, rear, and bottom panels are clear vinyl, allowing optimum observation of insects. The two side panels are fine 104 x 26 mesh/inch white polyester netting, and provide ventilation.

The front panel has two access points. A large crescent-shaped zippered panel, 21" (53 cm) across the bottom x 16" (40 cm) high, allows the user to place a host plant or other material into the cage. The smaller access sleeve located in the middle of the front panel is 8" (18 cm) diameter x 15" (38) cm long. This permits specimens, food, or water to be inserted or removed with lowered risk of escape.
